Corpus Study and Applied Linguistics

Its research activities are related to corpus linguistics and applied linguistics, and therefore all its works are based on data obtained from corpus. That is, actual samples of use of the language of any historical period and communicative context. It is essential in this division the use of new technologies of various kinds, with emphasis on an empirical approach, supported by statistical techniques. The quantitative and qualitative corpus study leads us to: a) use the adequate representation of discourse compiled from original texts; b) linguistic processing using computers in search of the characterizing linguistic features; and d) solving problems related to language with a methodology based on theories and own knowledge of linguistics together with other disciplines. The results of these investigations are intended to influence the field of education, training and research according to the general and specific objectives of IATEXT.
